Eagle Crusher Co. is hiring an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist. The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will provide environmental health and safety support to operations/management and ensure that all practices comply with regulatory compliance requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide safety leadership to the Company and ensure Company is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations pertaining to workplace safety and environmental compliance.
  • Work closely with leadership to develop and support a culture of team engagement and ownership in safety.
  • Communicate and assist employees in order to enhance Company safety practices.
  • Maintain safety logs, files, and track all site safety reports, injuries, and illnesses.
  • Process Workers Compensation claims. Analyze and interpret statistical safety data and to determine areas of high risk for accidents.
  • Monitor OSHA compliance and maintain OSHA 300 and 300A logs. Provide technical expertise to operations and maintenance and assist in interpreting OSHA standards
  • Assist in external agency interactions (OSHA inspections, OSHA log management, BWC, safety inspections) as needed.
  • Make recommendations for safety practices and improvements. Reinforce the company’s safety policies, guidelines, and procedures in a positive manner and implement corrective actions as necessary. Annually review all policies as required by OSHA and make any necessary adjustments. Create and implement safety policies and procedures as necessary and communicate any changes to employees.
  • Conduct employee training in areas such as EHS orientations, emergency response training, machine safety, forklift, crane, LOTO, and emergency evacuation preparedness training.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits and be sure that findings are communicated to plant leadership and deficiencies are corrected.
  • Conduct accident investigations and root cause analysis following a workplace injury and work with the leadership team on any corrective action that may be needed.
  • Coordinate annual hearing tests for employees.
  • Implement a respiratory fit test program and manage as necessary.
  • Create & implement any necessary emergency response plans, alarm systems, and sever weather monitoring programs.
  • Serve as the lead contact for pandemic related topics and action plans.
  • Update and manage training files for all employees to ensure all necessary training is current.
  • Maintain workplace copies of required Safety Data Sheets and ensure they are accessible for all workers.
  • Responsible for maintaining all safety equipment such as first aid kits, AEDs, sprinkler systems, and fire extinguishers.
  • Responsible for all MSHA compliance such as quarterly reporting and employee training requirements.
  • Implement and manage the IDEM Hazardous Waste program including annual Hazardous Waste Manifest, storm water inspections and annual reporting, and Hazardous Waste Management Program.
  • Form and lead the Safety Committee.
  • Form and lead the Emergency Response Team. (First Aid Responders)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree in specific discipline preferred.
  • At least three (3) years working in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least three (3) years working in a EH&S role.
  • Experience developing and providing training.
  • Proficient in OSHA guidelines and recording methods.
  • Strong understanding of workplace ergonomics, machine guarding, ladder safety, etc.
  • Good understanding of root cause analysis and good problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a professional manner to all levels in the company.
  • Must be willing to work required hours and to be on-call in emergency situations 24/7.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
