The best guard will not protect you if it is not properly installed and maintained. It might be tempting to remove guards to ease access to parts that might need to be replaced periodically, but machine guarding is one of the most important parts of your machine.
Before you start up your machine everyday you should be inspecting all of your guards. Check all conveyors, crusher, feeder, screen and engine guarding. Ensure the guarding is properly fastened or anchored and not loose. Inspect for any damaged, broken or bent guarding. Then take the time to repair or replace any guards. It really doesn’t take long to do a visual inspection before start up.
You may think you’re saving a few minutes and making it easier to remove and keep critical guarding off of your equipment, but one mistake can be costly with injuries or deaths as a result. If you have any questions on any of the guards on your machine call the manufacturer for more information.
