Service Questions with Louis: Leveling Your Portable Rock Crushing Equipment
When it comes to preventative maintenance and routine maintenance on your rock crushing equipment, the thought process immediately goes to the fluids, the belts, the wear plates, and more. One area that is often missed after the initial set up is the leveling of your equipment. While it may not seem like an important factor, an unlevel plant can be the catalyst of a list of issues such as belts not tracking properly, oil levels in the screen and feeder being uneven, improper flow of material into the impactor, and more. In this “Service Questions”, Eagle Crusher Service Technician Louis will go over the when’s and the how’s of leveling portable rock crushing equipment.

When to Check the Level of Your Portable Rock Crushing Equipment
Ideally you will want to place your plant on level ground, such as a concrete pad, to prevent any equipment from sinking. Placing your rock crushing equipment on level ground removes the need to check the leveling or your rock crushing equipment on a frequent basis. While having your equipment on level ground is a great start to minimizing your equipment becoming unlevel, it is still imperative to keep checking the level even if it’s just monthly.

If you are unable to put your portable rock crushing equipment on level ground, it’s important to check the leveling of your rock crushing equipment on a bi-weekly basis. If you are using cribbing, wood planks or concrete blocks, to level your plant, you should still check the leveling of your equipment on a bi-weekly basis. While it is still better than being on direct and uneven ground, cribbing still has the potential to sink and make the equipment unlevel. Checking the leveling of your portable rock crushing equipment will ensure that you are able to correct any leveling issues that may cause larger issues if unattended.
How to Level Your Rock Crushing Equipment
Using a level, check the level both laterally (side-to-side) and longitudinally (front-to-back). DO NOT make adjustments to the lifting legs at this time.
Lateral Leveling: When checking the front, check the level at the top of the screen, and when checking the back, check the level on the bottom of the feeder drive oil reservoir.

Longitudinal Leveling: Check the level in various places along the main frame on both sides of the plant.
